The telling of the story of the Cox is a de facto peep into the vast area of the southern Blue Mountains. The watershed of the Cox covers the area from Katoomba to Kanangra Walls, from the Jenolan Main Range to King's Tableland/Bimlow Tableland. Cox's River has its rise on the Great Dividing Range at Piper's Flat. In a (generally) southerly then easterly course it cuts a great trench through the Blue Mountains for a distance of ninety miles until it joins the Wollondilly River.
